Le 15 Patisserie, Lower Parel

“Baking cookies is comforting, and cookies are the sweetest little bit of comfort food. They are very bite-sized and personal.” – Sandra Lee

Macarons are a meringue based dessert comprising of two round cookies with a filling of buttercream, ganache or jam sandwiched in the centre. It was in Italy where these cookies were first introduced during the wedding of Catherine De Medicis in 1533 to Duc D’Orleans (who became the king of France in 1547). Gradually, they gained popularity in various parts of the globe owing to the wide variety of flavours that have come up in all these years.

Sea Salt

The chewy, soft and light but not dry cookies with a ruffled circumference and the moist core which was arguably the softest and so easily melted in the mouth, both established this one as the CLEAR WINNER amongst all the varieties that we tried here.

Passion Fruit

The sweet-tart and sharp flavour of the creamy, smooth and moist filling between light and chewy yet not dry cookies again ensured a mind-boggling treat for the taste buds.

The creamy and smooth core sandwiched between chewy and lightly crunchy cookies of this highly aromatic macaron, revealed a wonderfully soothing, light, floral and slightly sweet taste.

It was more like a small counter tucked away in a corner on the first floor of the Palladium mall in Lower Parel which we would have easily missed if it wasn’t for the crowd gathered around it. It’s needless to say that there are no seating arrangements with people either eating standing right there or taking away their dessert offerings. The staff behind the counter was kind, energetic, efficient and swift though, also having good communication skills.

The three macarons that we tasted here, set us back by 240 INR. The macarons here are relatively expensive (80 INR) as compared to most other places where the cost per macaron doesn’t exceed 65 INR. But, given the superior quality (in most other places either the cookies are too dry or the filling is grainy and not smooth or moist enough), their pricing seems justified.
