We generally have a notion that Healthy food cannot be tasty. All thanks to the first ever Diabetic Food Trail concept – an innovative brainchild of Mrs. Seema Pinto and Mr. Manoj Pinto, the founders of Semora Entertainment Works, that this myth is broken! We all know the challenges that diabetics, pre-diabetics or persons willing to keep a tab on their dietary intake face when they are out on work or on meetings and need to have a meal, or when going out with family and friends to dine. Most of us might also know some die-hard foodies who are currently suffering from diabetes and have to kill their urges to enjoy a delicious meal outside because of their illness. Well, I have a good news for all those people out there!
Mia Cucina, amongst other 120 restaurant partners across Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore, is all set to offer all the Diabetics, Pre-Diabetics and diet conscious individuals a healthy as well as undoubtedly delicious culinary experience for the entire month of November beginning from the 14th of November, I.e. on World Diabetes day! All thanks to Zomato that we could be a part of this wonderful initiative and enjoy an absolutely unique #ZomatoMeetup experience at Mia Cucina, Powai.
Since the concept is to provide a healthier and diabetic-friendly version of food, the menus include a much healthier version of appetizers, main course and sugar free desserts. All the dishes under the diabetic menu provide a complete nutritional information, including the calories consumed, carbs, proteins and fats content to make a diabetic’s choice easier. Keeping a tab on how much to eat also plays an important role and the restaurant chefs not only serve you healthier food but also in the right portions! So, if you are a total foodie but diabetic, whose diet has been restricted to food cooked at home due to unavailability of food meeting your special needs outside, you need not worry any more! Get ready to set yourself free from the restrictions and enjoy an absolutely delicious yet totally healthy dining experience!
Located in Hiranandani business park, Powai, Mia Cucina (meaning – my kitchen) is a complete treat to the eyes. The ambience and the decor is very warm and welcoming with a well stocked bar and the dining area spread across the bar, the right amount of lighting and good music. The brick-styled walls showcase a variety of art work for sale. The place seemed almost full but not at all crammed up. Indeed an example of space management well done. Our table contained an illustrative trivia on healthy eating and regular exercise, a menu card that not only mentioned the name of the dishes to be served to us but also the detailed nutritional value of every dish along with clean plates, table cloths, knives and forks.
The service was very warm, yet a tad bit slow. The service slowed down a bit after the salads were served to us. But, all the delicious food totally made up for it!
Coming to the food- We were served the Lemon iced tea as a welcome drink followed by Zuppa Di Zucca soup; InsalataMista Salad; Bruschetta Funghi, Bruschetta Tomato and Basil and Whole Wheat Flat Bread for starters; Panini Pollo, PolloAllaGrillia, RawasAllaGrillia and Whole Wheat Spaghetti Aglio Olio for mains; and Basil Pannacotta and Oats and Almond Sticky Cake for desserts. I did not taste the Bruschetta Funghi as I’m allergic to mushrooms.
Zuppa Di Zucca soup – 5/5
It was an over roasted pumpkin soup which was very deliciously spiced with pepper slightly overpowering the spices, served in a small glass with a small piece of bread dipped in it. Divine!
Insalata Mista Salad – 4.5/5
A mixture of lettuce and olives with a little bit of cheese in a Vinaigrette dressing served in a wide glass! I’m not really a salad person, but I totally loved this one!
Bruschetta Tomato and Basil – 4.5/5
A cute little crostini bread topped with tomatoes, basil and mozzarella cheese. Absolutely well done! One of the best Bruschettas I have had so far!
Whole Wheat Flat Bread – 5/5
Grilled crispy flat bread topped with veggies and herbs like Basil, etc. Amazingly flavour some! I simply loved the uniqueness of this one!
Panini Pollo – 4.5/5
A mini burger made of grilled chicken breast patty, lettuce and pickled veggies like tomatoes, etc. Delicious! It served as a gentle reminder that diabetics and calorie conscious foodies ain’t gonna miss out on fast food like burgers, which is no doubt healthier!
Pollo Alla Grillia – 5/5
Grilled chicken breast served with veggies like zucchini, bell peppers etc. The chicken breast was perfectly tender and juicy and the veggies added a crunch to the dish. Simply yumm! Amazing dish!
Rawas Alla Grillia – 4.5/5
Chargrilled Rawas fish served with veggies like bell peppers, broccoli, etc and dressed in black olive sauce. Amazing again!
Whole Wheat Spaghetti Aglio Olio – 4.5/5
Whole wheat Spaghetti pasta cooked in a very good extra virgin olive oil with garlic, herbs and veggies like broccoli, bell peppers and carrots. A dish cooked to perfection!
Basil Pannacotta – 5/5
The star of the meal! An absolute winner! Who on earth would think about a dessert with Basil as the main ingredient! Amazing with the perfect flavour imparted by Basil. While the dish didn’t quite match the expected pannacotta consistency, the deliciousness did wonders!
Oats and Almond Sticky Cake – 4.5/5
Amazing! An absolutely unique cake made of oats and almonds served with passion fruit juice. The cake wasn’t really sticky as the name suggested. The passion fruit juice imparted strong acidic flavour to the cake, which added to the taste factor.
Food – 5/5
Innovation – 5/5
Health quotient – 5/5
Ambience – 4.5/5
Service – 4/5
VFM – NA (it was a complimentary meal hostedby Zomato)
